Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare potatoes: Cook potatoes in salted boiling water for 5 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. Cook meatloaf mixture: Combine ground beef or turkey, garlic, onion, egg, bread crumbs, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Assemble casserole: Spread meatloaf mixture in the prepared baking dish. Top with potatoes and crumbled bacon.
  5. Prepare cheese sauce: In a small saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk or half-and-half until smooth. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese and cottage cheese until melted.
  6. Bake: Pour cheese sauce over casserole. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
