Brandon Blackstock’s Official Cause of Death Confirmed
Brandon Blackstock, the former husband of Kelly Clarkson, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 48 due to melanoma, a severe type of skin cancer. The Silver Bow County Coroner, Dan Hollis, verified that the cause of death was natural.
Brandon died peacefully while under hospice care at his residence in Butte, Montana, surrounded by family and friends. He had been privately fighting melanoma for more than three years prior to his death.
His 18-year-old son, Seth, paid an emotional tribute, referring to Brandon as his “hero and best friend,” and reminiscing about their shared experiences of hunting, fishing, and ranching. He expressed a desire to “fish with him again someday.”
Brandon’s brother, Shelby, remembered him as “funny, bright, and full of life,” pledging to honor his memory and treasure their moments together.
Country music icon Reba McEntire, who was Brandon’s former stepmother, affectionately referred to him as her “oldest son” in a touching message, concluding with “Rest in peace cowboy.” She openly discussed the profound impact of his loss on her.
During his last months, Brandon found solace in a tranquil life on his ranch in Montana, remaining engaged in cattle ranching and spending quality time with his daughter Savannah until his health deteriorated.
Kelly Clarkson postponed her Las Vegas residency just a day before his death to concentrate on their children, River (11) and Remington (9). She characterized this period as deeply private and emotional.
Sources close to Kelly indicate that she is heartbroken for her children but resolute in prioritizing their emotional health as they navigate life without their father.
